Winemaker Notes

A beautiful raspberry color robe. Nose of red fruits (strawberry, red currant), with fragrances of flowers. The palate is well-balanced and fresh, with a nice acidity supported by the flavors of strawberry and guava. This Rosé has a beautiful presence, between freshness and aromas.

Strong minerality from volcanic soil shows in this tightly textured wine. Along with tanginess, the wine has intensity, spice, red fruits that are still developing and the possibilty for some aging. Drink from late 2021.

The 2020 Coteaux d'Aix en Provence Rose Cuvée Alexandre includes an appreciable Cabernet Sauvignon component (27%), while the majority of the blend is Grenache (52%) and the balance is Cinsault (21%). It's still a pale-hued rosé but includes some leafy overtones to the redcurrant, melon and citrus fruit and an undercurrent of crushed stone. It's medium-bodied on the palate, crisp and refreshing, with a long, mouthwatering finish.

Whether it’s playful and fun or savory and serious, most rosé today is not your grandmother’s White Zinfandel, though that category remains strong. Pink wine has recently become quite trendy, and this time around it’s commonly quite dry. Since the pigment in red wines comes from keeping fermenting juice in contact with the grape skins for an extended period, it follows that a pink wine can be made using just a brief period of skin contact—usually just a couple of days. The resulting color depends on grape variety and winemaking style, ranging from pale salmon to deep magenta.

A fantastic source of dry rosés from the usual red Rhône varieties, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence is a coastal, hilly region whose variations in elevations and microclimates make it ideal for viticulture. Red and a small amount of white wines, also made from Rhône grape varieties, are found here as well.
