Winemaker Notes

Brunello di Montalcino Casanova di Neri is characterized simply by its white label, to the point where it has now been renamed "White Label" on the American market. This "Etichetta bianca" is born in vineyards that look to Montalcino from the east, at an altitude which varies from 350 to 480 metres above sea level, very close to the cellar. The main characteristics of this wine are elegance, finesse, and longevity. It matures in large, used barrels for about 42-45 months and perfectly represents the estate's desire to express a product distinguished by character and tradition.

RP 96
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The outstanding 2010 Brunello di Montalcino gives you everything you want to see in a great wine, a great Tuscan wine. This monumental expression of Sangiovese delivers top-notch intensity with seamless integration of aromas. They span from dark fruit and Morello cherry to chocolate, spice, licorice, balsam herb and rosemary sprig. The energy and vitality of the vintage is locked perfectly within. This Brunello exhibits especially soft, silky tannins with long persistence and momentum. There is nothing out of place and the price tag is certainly not exaggerated for this level of excellence.
JS 96
James Suckling
Gorgeous aromas of sea salt, savory, smoked meats and dried fruits follow through to a full body, with fine tannins and a long and intense finish. So beautiful and enticing. Goes on for minutes. Excellent quality for the standard bottling of this winery. Better in 2016.
WS 94
Wine Spectator
A whiff of spice gives way to ripe cherry, raspberry and earth flavors in this lively, supple red. This is all about texture and elegance, with the fine balance making this feel effortless. The lingering aftertaste evokes tobacco, leather and spice notes. Best from 2018 through 2033.

Casanova di Neri Casanova di Neri’s Vineyards Winery Image

Casanova di Neri was established in 1971, when Giovanni Neri acquired an estate not far from the town of Montalcino. In 1978 they produced their first Brunello di Montalcino. Over the years their continuing goal has been the search for land believed to be optimal for growing high quality grapes. In 1981 they released a single vineyard bottling from their four hectares amphitheater vineyard site in NE Montalcino, named Cerretalto.

In 1991, Giovanni’s son, Giacomo took over the management of the estate and the winemaking. Giacomo acquired vineyards in the southern part of Montalcino, which eventually became their Tenuta Nuova Brunello di Montalcino, which was first released in 1993.

Today, the estate has grown to include seven different vineyards in various parts of the denomination, totaling 156 acres of vines along with forested tracts, arable fields, and 50 acres of olive trees. The vineyards have been planted or replanted mostly with cuttings propagated from old Sangiovese vines in the Cerretalto vineyard that produced distinctive, high-quality fruit.

Giacomo’s sons, Giovanni & Gianlorenzo are at his side at the winery. Giovanni is working in winemaking & vineyard management while Gianlorenzo is focused on marketing and sales.
