Winemaker Notes

The wine shows a complex array of tropical fruit, grapefruit and limes. The palate is fresh and full with fantastic length, made in a style to be enjoyed fresh line fish, Sushi, oysters or just on its own.

The 2013 Sauvignon Blanc is blended with 5% Semillon cropped at six tons per hectare and sees nine months on the lees in tank and in barrel. It has a pretty bouquet leaning more toward the tropical rather than herbaceous spectrum. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, impressive weight in the mouth with lovely greengage, nettle and gooseberry notes flourishing toward the finish. This is another excellent Sauvignon Blanc from winemaker Duncan Savage.

Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing variety that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though it can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acidity and intense aromatics. This variety is of French provenance. Somm Secret—Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bell pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a high concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.

Situated on the western edges of Cape Peninsula, the vineyards in this cool-climate, maritime district of Cape Town grow within one kilometer to the sea in most directions.

Cape Peninsula is recognized mainly for Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon and includes the small region of Constantia where the Dutch governor, Simon van der Stel founded an extremely successful vineyard in the 17th century.
