Winemaker Notes
Dark ruby red in color with expansive aromatics of violets, dried roses and amber-licorice notes that lead into a dry fully structured wine with ripe tannins, earth tinged berry fruit and plenty of minerals.

The 2018 Ghemme Anno Primo is a very serious wine. Dark, vibrant and layered, the 2018 is all class. Sweet floral, savory and earthy notes run through a core of red/purplish fruit. Bright acids and beams of tannin are all woven into its fabric. This is a stellar wine in every way. The Anno Primo is without question the wine to buy here in the 2018 vintage.
Attracting the most glory, prestige and fame to the Piedmont region, Nebbiolo in all of its expressions—Barolo, Barbaresco, Roero, Ghemme and Gattinara—creates a complex wine, truly unique for its delicate qualities combined with strength and a great potential to improve over time.
But Nebbiolo isn’t all there is to red wine from Piedmont! Barbera is the most planted variety and historically most popular as a dependable, food-friendly, everyday wine.
Beyond these two, a surprising number of red varieties call Piedmont their home. Worth a try include Dolcetto for its bold concentration and aromas of spice cake. Other grapes to investigate include Freisa, Croatina, Brachetto, Grignolino and Pelaverga.
