Winemaker Notes

Whole-cluster pressed into stainless steel, then native yeast fermentation for 21 days. The wine was aged on the lees for 3 months after fermentation was completed and bottled in February.

COMMENTARY: While rosés in the marketplace seem to be coming from every-which-way, some are rising to the genre's top in quality. The 2018 Brea Pinot Rosé is an excellent wine. TASTING NOTES: This wine is bright, fresh, and refreshing. Its pure aromas and flavors of wild strawberries and slate should pair it well with fresh salmon sashimi. (Tasted: September 26, 2019, San Francisco, CA)

Brea, California
Chris Brockway, winemaker and owner at Broc Cellars, a noted California natural wine maker, and Tim Elenteny, the libations logistics master behind TE Imports, are the masterminds behind Brea Wine Company. They have seen the thirst for site specific, terroir driven, and sustainably farmed wine become the driving force for many avant-garde California winemakers who gravitate toward varieties that flow outside the mainstream. Brea Wine Company seeks to capture this thirst while also bringing the beloved classic varietals Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir into the fold.

A large and diverse appellation within California’s North Coast AVA, Mendocino is home to several smaller sub-regions—most notably the Anderson Valley. This scenic region, with rolling hills covered in redwood forests as well as vineyards, is one of the world’s top producers of certified organically-grown grapes. Due to wide geographical and climatic variation, a vast array of wine styles can be found here.

Whether it’s playful and fun or savory and serious, most rosé today is not your grandmother’s White Zinfandel, though that category remains strong. Pink wine has recently become quite trendy, and this time around it’s commonly quite dry. Since the pigment in red wines comes from keeping fermenting juice in contact with the grape skins for an extended period, it follows that a pink wine can be made using just a brief period of skin contact—usually just a couple of days. The resulting color depends on grape variety and winemaking style, ranging from pale salmon to deep magenta.
