Jasmine, orange blossom and citrus scents start this food-friendly white from Santorini. Sea salt, lemon and slate flavors prevail on the palate, feeling crisp and laser-focused. A perfect cohort to grilled fish or chicken.

The 2017 Santorini is an Assyrtiko coming in at 13% alcohol. This is a middle-of-the-road Assyrtiko, but its focus, precision and nice finish serve it well. It is impeccably balanced but not particularly expressive. In fact, it seems a bit bland. This is a step or two behind the lovely 2016. It has a lot to offer, though, and it may yet improve in the bottle. Let's be a bit conservative and start here.

Boutari made the best of the warm 2017 vintage to craft a broad, friendly Santorini. The peachy fruit is balanced by saline minerality, with a little peppery alcohol that adds power and spice.
A crisp white variety full of zippy acidity, Assyrtiko comes from the volcanic Greek island of Santorini but is grown increasingly wide throughout the country today. Assyrtiko’s popularity isn’t hard to explain: it retains its acid and mineral profile in a hot climate, stands alone or blends well with other grapes and can also withstand some age. Somm Secret—On the fairly barren, windswept Mediterranean island of Santorini, Assyrtiko vines must be cultivated in low baskets, pinned to the ground. The shape serves to preserve moisture and protect the growing grapes in its interior.
