Winemaker Notes
Expressive grapefruit and Golden Delicious apple aromas detailed with graceful lime blossom, frangipani and white truffle are further embellished by discreet vanilla oak spice on the nose. A generous palate that is powerful yet intricate has a pronounced citrus fruit purity that is layered with hints of oak and signature minerality. This Chardonnay finishes with remarkable intensity and length.

Boschendal, a sparkling specialist based in Franschoek, sourced fruit from a farm in Elgin for years before purchasing the property in 2017. The vines are planted on Bokkeveld shale. This wine requires a lot of air to move at all, but after a day it unveils a citrusy acidity running through luxe, jammy orchard fruit. Powerful, elegant, tasty, and ready for the cellar.
One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.
This high-elevation, cool-climate district, nestled into the ancient sandstone Hottentots Holland Mountains, traditionally was apple orchard land. Today Elgin is also a source of exceptional Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc and Pinot noir.
