There’s a brisk, flinty reduction to this wine, what one taster described as “licking volcanic rock.” That structure keeps in check the exotic fleshiness, smoky and juicy, with a flavor that falls somewhere between avocado and peach. Give it a year in the cellar.
There are hundreds of white grape varieties grown throughout the world. Some are indigenous specialties capable of producing excellent single varietal wines. Each has its own distinct viticultural characteristics, as well as aroma and flavor profiles.
Set of islands off the coast of Morocco and south of Madeira that host a wide range of indigenous and unique grape varieties. Soils are volcanic and recent subsidies from the local government has led to a revival of the islands’ old vines.
