Winemaker Notes

The aroma is expressive with spicy notes and a touch ofcreamy oak. Very elegant, complex nose. On the palate, it is round and full-flavoured in mouth, tasty and balanced. The finish is long, lingering and silky.

This wine matches perfectly with red meat, stews and roasted food as well as game. Particularly suited for cold meats and dry cheeses.

Blend: 85% Tempranillo, 10% Mazuelo and 5%Graciano

The Martínez Bujanda family blends a little mazuelo (carignan) and graciano into their gran reserva. This vintage is advanced in terms of maturity, creating an old-fashioned Rioja with scents of fresh cherries, cherry tomatoes and autumn leaves. Balsamic notes make it a wine to drink now with a charry sirloin steak.

Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.

Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
