Winemaker Notes

Red background with bright red rim. Very intense and fruity, with an impression of red fruits that protrude from the glass. Cherries, raspberries and red plums stand out. The oak is perfectly integrated, almost imperceptible, despite being in barrel for 12 months. The effect of the oak used in this wine is what was sought, favouring aging without marking it. In addition to the freshness and fruit that are the main axis, these sensations rest on a complex base of aromatic herbs and notes of limestone soil. It is of medium volume, with a great sensation of freshness. The red fruit stands out in the dimensions seen on the nose. The tannin is lively but very fine. It has a lot of persistence and leaves a pleasant sensation of freshness and fruit. It adapts very well to low temperatures and invites you to continue drinking. It will live very well in the bottle, but it is already great to enjoy.

Such a bright, fresh Rioja that shows vibrant fruit. Modern, glossy and structured, but the tannins are focused and polished. Long and concentrated. Drink or hold.

The 2022 Sela comes from an early harvest after a very warm and dry summer, and the grapes had a shorter maturation cycle. It's 89% Tempranillo, 7% Garnacha and 4% Graciano from younger vines. The aim was to produce a more approachable red. This year, it has a deeper color, moderate 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.61 and 5.9 grams of acidity, possibly because of the blocking of some vines. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak vats and matured in used French barriques for 12 months. It has a creamy and spicy nose with notes of red and black fruit and a medium-bodied palate with good structure and abundant tannins, with grip and balance.

Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.

Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
