Winemaker Notes

Ruby red color. The nose is clean with balsamic notes and a noble wood aftertaste. The palate starts soft, it is velvety in the mouth and has a body with notes of red fruit, raspberries and cherries. It has a pleasant finish in which the balsamic aftertaste reappears.

It is ideal to pair with meats; red meat, poultry, small game, oily fish, semi-cured cheeses, spicy dishes and hot dishes such as beans or potatoes Rioja style.

The 2012 Crianza is quite classical, with minty/herbal notes of American oak and ripe berries. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and a pleasant, long finish. Year after year this is a reference in the Crianzas, and a very good value.

Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.

Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
