Winemaker Notes

It has very good intensity, with a dark cherry-colored background and a dark red rim. Subtle, very delicate and fine, with many fruity notes, with such harmony that it is difficult to surpass them. The plum, blackberry, cherry and sour cherry stand out, including the stone. The oak is impeccably assembled and is holding the sensations of the landscape, but always in the background. It has good volume, but it is light, long and delicate, with a lot of fruity sensation. The tannin is perfect, fine and fresh. The mineral sensations of the limestone soil and the landscape of the aromatic plants in the pine forest appear. The whole is that of a very well-finished wine. The vintage, rainy and fresh, leaves its mark of elegance in abundance.

A combination of complexity and vibrancy of fruit, but the depth is impressive, with lots of dark plums, smoked meat, cocoa powder, spiced black cherries, graphite, dark minerals and roasted spices. Full-bodied and structured but juicy, with more of a chalky texture. Long and bright. Drink from 2025.

Perfumed cherry jam and black forest fruit with layers of toast and sweet baking spices. Smooth texture, framed by powdery tannins, supporting the intensity of the fruit as well as the savoury depth. Persistent and expressive. Very approachable and seductive now but with significant cellaring potential.

The 2018 Corimbo I is showing great and shows the freshness of the vintage. It has a mixture of red and black fruit, notes of flowers and wild herbs with spiciness from the aging in barrel, notes of cedar wood and pencil lead, quite classical and harmonious, with elegance. 31,256 bottles produced. It was bottled in August after spending 16 months in French and American oak barrels.

The 2018 Corimbo I is Tinta del País from Burgos, harvested in a rainy, Atlantic-style vintage. Light garnet in the glass, it opens with herbal aromas, wet earth and a touch of mushroom overlaid with subtle oak and floral notes. The palate is fluid and soft, showing firm tannins and a savory profile of red fruit and herbs.

Notoriously food-friendly, long-lasting and Spain’s most widely planted grape, Tempranillo is the star variety of red wines from Rioja and Ribera del Duero. The Rioja terms Joven, Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva indicate both barrel and bottle time before release. Traditionally blended in Rioja with Garnacha, plus a bit of Mazuelo (Carignan) and Graciano, the Tempranillo in Ribera del Duero typically stands alone. Somm Secret—Tempranillo claims many different names depending on location. In Penedès, it is called Ull de Llebre and in Valdepeñas, goes by Cencibel. Known as Tinta Roriz in Portugal, Tempranillo plays an important role in Port wine.

Ribera del Duero, Spanish wine region, is located in northen Spain’s Castilla y León region, just a 2-hour drive from Madrid. While winemaking in this area goes back more than 2000 years, it was in the 1980s that 9 wineries applied for and were granted Denominación de Origen (D.O.) status. Today, more than 300 wineries call Ribera del Duero home, including some of Spain’s most iconic names.

Notable Facts Ribera’s main grape variety, Tempranillo, locally know as Tinto Fino, is perfectly suited to the extreme climate of the region, where it must survive scorching summers and frigid winters. Low yields resulting from conscientious tending to old vines planted in Ribera’s diverse soils types, give Ribera wines a distinctive depth and complexity not found in other Tempranillos. Rich and full-bodied, the spice, dark fruit and smoky flavors in a bold Ribera del Duero will pair well with roasted and grilled meats, Mexican food and tomato-based sauces.
