Winemaker Notes
This deep ruby-red Bordeaux is made from grapes grown on the gravelly, chalky, and clay soil of the hills overlooking the left bank of the Dordogne. With a great and deep ruby colour, this wine gives off intense aromas of red and black fruit. With intense aromas of forest fruits, it is smooth and generous on the palate, opening brightly and lingering on a long finish.

The savory and energetic 2023 Bernard Magrez Château Les Songes Bordeaux offers a supple, polished profile, unfolding with red plum, subtle earth, and a whisper of spice. Soft and inviting on entry, it carries just enough fine-grained tannin to lend shape and gentle weight across the mid-palate, finishing with freshness and poise. Best served from 2026 through 2031, when its structure and fruit will be in harmonious balance. Pair it with veal medallions finished in a light shallot and thyme jus, or elevate the match with veal medallions in a delicate mushroom and tarragon cream sauce—the wine’s savory undertones and moderate structure will echo the dish’s earthy depth while its bright fruit keeps the pairing lively and refined. In most of France, wines are named by their place of origin and not by the type of grape (with the exception of Alsace). Just like a red Burgundy is by law, always made of Pinot noir, a red Bordeaux is a blended wine composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Depending on the laws of the village from which the grapes come, the conditions of the vintage and decisions of the winemaker, the blend can be further supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and in rare cases, Carmenere. So popular and repeated has this mix of grape varieties become worldwide, that the term, Bordeaux Blend, refers to a wine blended in this style, regardless of origin.
