    Winemaker Notes

Dark ruby color. Aromas of cherries, cola and mixed berries—mulberry, blackberry and blueberry all at once—with suggestions of minerals, pumice and light smoke. The flavors are huge for Pinot Noir, again dominated by ripe cherries and berries with a hint of barbecue smoke. As the wine rolls across the palate, its smooth tannins and fruity, sweet-oak flavors are beautifully balanced by the acidity. The finish is long, rich and expansive, promising further evolution in the bottle.

    Belle Glos
Belle Glos showcases distinctive Pinot Noirs produced from top growing areas along the California coast: the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey County; the Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County; and the Santa Maria Valley, Santa Barbara County. The climate differences are significant, depending on the amount of fog, wind, sunlight and soil type at each site.

Winemaker Joseph J. Wagner is a fourth-generation winemaker from a family with farming and winemaking roots in the Napa Valley since 1906. The name Belle Glos (pronounced BELL GLOSS), honors Joseph’s grandmother, Lorna Belle Glos Wagner, a co-founder of Caymus Vineyards.

Best known for lusciously sweet dessert wines but home to many distinctive dry whites and reds, Hungary is an exciting country at the crossroads of tradition and innovation. Mostly flat with a continental climate, Hungary is almost perfectly bisected by the Danube River (known here as the Duna), and contains Central Europe’s largest lake, Balaton. Soil types vary throughout the country but some of the best vines, particularly in Tokaji, are planted on mineral-rich volcanic soil.

Tokaji, Hungary’s most famous wine region, is home to the venerated botrytized sweet wine of the same name, produced from a blend of Furmint and Hárslevelű. Dry and semi-dry wines are also make in Tokaji, using the same varieties. Other native white varieties include the relatively aromatic and floral, Irsai Olivér, Cserszegi Fűszeres and Királyleányka, as well as the distinctively smoky and savory, Juhfark. Common red varieties include velvety, Pinot Noir-like Kadarka and juicy, easy-drinking Kékfrankos (known elsewhere as Blaufränkisch).
