Winemaker Notes

A complex amalgam of nougat and almond takes your notice before a wave of white fruits steeped in a creamy vanilla sauce fills the nostrils. A wonderfully harmonious, supple, and lithe palate with everything in place - ready for a long and exciting journey of the senses, mainly if you give this wine plenty of time in the bottle.

A rich gold hue, Bass's Estate Chard shows a quiet power. It commences with gentle aromas of lemon, melon rind, and toast, with a little seashell reduction. The palate is beautifully textured—satiny and mouthfilling—with a cream-and-toast underbelly. Currently on the shy side, this could age for a decade or more but would make for elegant food pairing now.

One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.
