Winemaker Notes

Bright in color with medium intensity, showing vibrant purplish-red reflections. On the nose, it opens with aromas of small red berries and pomegranate juice, accompanied by the unmistakable violet note typical of quality Sangiovese. Subtle hints of vanilla and delicate oak tones from a well-judged, unobtrusive aging in wood enrich the aromatic profile. On the palate, the entry is lively and well-balanced. The taste is expressive and crisp, revealing sweet notes of ripe cherry, plum jam, and nuances of licorice on the finish. The body is dynamic and elegant, supported by well-defined tannins and a smooth, enveloping texture. A fresh streak of acidity carries the persistent finish, leaving a pleasant desire to return to the glass.

This significant Tuscan village—not to be confused with the red grape of the same name widely grown in Abruzzo and the Marche regions—was home to one of the first four Italian DOCGs granted in 1980.

Based on the Sangiovese grape (here called Prugnolo Gentile), the village’s prized wine called Vino Nobile di Montepulciano ranks stylistically in between Chianti Classico, for its finesse, and Brunello di Montalcino for its power. With a deep ruby color, heavy concentration and a firm structure given by the village's heavy, cool clay soils, most Vino Nobile di Montepulciano will demand some bottle age.
