Winemaker Notes

Pauline's Cuvee is made after the wines of the Right Bank. Merlot and Cabernet Franc lead the way to a soft supple wine with lots of character. Dark Ruby in color. Aromatic notes of black cherry, blackberry, plum, currant, integrated sweet oak, cinnamon and clove spices, and shaved milk chocolate. It has a delicate and soft entry with great depth and balance. It is the definition of soft and velvety!

Blend: 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 2.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5% Malbec

A realistically priced wine from Napa, the 2012 Pauline's Cuvee is an outstanding blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec (7,500 cases) is a beauty from four vineyards in Napa Valley, showing the vintage’s telltale purity, dense purple color, lushness and seductive mocha, espresso and chocolaty notes intermixed with black cherry and blackcurrant fruit. This is a medium to full-bodied, lush, heady wine to drink over the next 5-10 years.

Showing fine elegance and style, the 2012 Atalon Pauline's Cuvée exhibits pleasing red and black fruits, with a note of sweet oak and dusty earth. The wine's soft tannins make it a nice match with roast chicken. (Tasted: March 22, 2017, San Francisco, CA)

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
