Winemaker Notes

A wine that boasts heady aromas, succulent fruit and a good natural acidity, the Artazuri Garnacha is an ideal everyday wine. Bright cherry-red in color, it has redolent aromas of ripe forest berries, lavender and violet. Well-balanced and medium-bodied on the palate, the wine is full of ripe fruit that persists through the finish.

Critical Acclaim

ST 88
International Wine Cellar

Bright violet. Black raspberry and spices on the nose, with cola and cracked pepper adding complexity. A juicy, focused garnacha with tightly wound dark berry flavors displaying good clarity and tangy bite. Takes a jammy turn on the finish, with the peppery note echoing.

Artazu
Artazu, a project from the same producer of Artadi, Juan Carlos Lopez de la Calle, strives for great quality Grenache. In Navarra, Juan discovered mind-blowing old vineyards and allowed them to fully express their potential for depth and personality at Artazu. The winery and vineyards are located in the most northern zone of Navarra at an altitude ranging from 400 to 600 meters.

Artazu's top wine is called "Santa Cruz". It is produced from mostly 100+ year old hillside vineyards of Grenache. The winery also produces a line of wines with the name Artazuri that is made from slightly younger vines. These represent tremendous value.

The Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without thinking of the other. Although Cabernet has many important outposts throughout the wine world, nowhere else has it achieved such success (and, at the highest end, commanded such lofty prices) than in Napa. Here, it is responsible for bold, opulent, and dark-fruited wines with grippy tannins and a healthy dose of alcohol. The best examples can age for decades. Each of Napa’s smaller sub-AVAs imparts a different character to Cabernet, such as Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
