    Winemaker Notes

The 2017 Annabella Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a deep, clear ruby red in the glass. Aromas evolve quickly, with orange peel, cranberry, rose petal, and a subtle ripe boysenberry note. In the mouth the wine is rich and perfumed, with ripe strawberries and rose mingling with a lovely soft, broad texture. A complex spiciness reminiscent of sarsaparilla is gently framed by French oak.

Enjoy this gorgeous wine with a whole oven roasted chicken, skin well-salted and crisped, served with sautéed wild mushrooms.

    Annabella, California
Named to honor Michael Pozzan’s venerable grandmother, Annabella wines are hand sourced from select vineyards throughout the Sonoma and Napa valleys. Whether cabernet sauvignon, merlot or chardonnay, these wines are a toast to a spirited woman of remarkable grace. We remember her love of cooking for family and friends and we celebrate it to this day. Annabella wines represent a wonderful combination of quality and value.

A standout region for its decidedly Californian take on Burgundian varieties, the Russian River Valley is named for the eponymous river that flows through it. While there are warm pockets of the AVA, it is mostly a cool-climate growing region thanks to breezes and fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean.

Chardonnay and Pinot Noir reign supreme in Russian River, with the best examples demonstrating a unique combination of richness and restraint. The cool weather makes Russian River an ideal AVA for sparkling wine production, utilizing the aforementioned varieties. Zinfandel also performs exceptionally well here. Within the Russian River Valley lie the smaller appellations of Chalk Hill and Green Valley. The former, farther from the ocean, is relatively warm, with a focus on red and white Bordeaux varieties. The latter is the coolest, foggiest parcel of the Russian River Valley and is responsible for outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
