Winemaker Notes
Tasting NotesDeep ruby red in color, ÀN/2 has complex aromas of savory spices, wild raspberries, dark cherryfruit and a hint of violets and smokiness. On the palate the wine is silky and elegant with intenseflavors of mature fruit. Well balanced with a long finish, this wine pairs excellently with stuffed porkchops, rabbit ravioli or roast leg of duck.

The 2008 AN/2 is made up of 65% Callet, 20% Mantonegre and Fogoneu, and 15% Syrah aged for 13 months in 35% new French oak. Wood smoke, earth notes, cinnamon, clove, and black cherry aromas are followed by a vibrant, sweetly fruited, racy wine with good intensity and length. Drink this outstanding effort over the next 5-6 years.
Anima Negra, located in the Balearic Islands southeast of Mallorca, employs predominantly indigenous varieties to turn out wines unique to their terroir.
Spanish red wine is known for being bold, heady, rustic and age-worthy, Spain is truly a one-of-a-kind wine-producing nation. A great majority of the country is hot, arid and drought-ridden, and since irrigation has only been recently introduced and (controversially) accepted, viticulture has sustained—and flourished—only through a great understanding of Spain’s particular conditions. Large spacing between vines allows each enough resources to survive and as a result, the country has the most acreage under vine compared to any other country, but is usually third in production.
Of the Spanish red wines, the most planted and respected grape variety is Tempranillo, the star of Spain’s Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. Priorat specializes in bold red blends, Jumilla has gained global recognition for its single varietal Monastrell and Utiel-Requena has garnered recent attention for its reds made of Bobal.
