Winemaker Notes

This 2015 Amici Cellars Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon highlights the lush, ripe fruit and Rutherford Dust of valley floor vineyards, along with the structure and ageability of Napa Valley’s best mountain appellations. Aromas of dark roasted vanilla bean, cedar box, black currant, black olive savory hints of rosemary. Full bodied pallet of rich dark coco powder, soy, sweet dark cherry and boysenberry juice. Lush tannins leading to a finish or refreshing mountain tannins and brown spice.

Blend: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc

WE 94
Wine Enthusiast
This wine is impressively blended with 10% Cabernet Franc, showing a wealth of dusty plum, clove and cinnamon character up front and throughout. The fruit is predominantly from mountain vineyards. Soft, integrated texture shows its integration with the French oak, which supports instead of distracts.

James Suckling
This is tight and very firm and showing beautiful fruit. Full body, silky and reserved. Tension. Focused. All here. An excellent wine. Drink or hold.
RP 92
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve sports a medium to deep garnet-purple color and nose of crème de cassis and blueberry preserves with an undercurrent of cedar, roses, bay leaves and fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied with a soft, plush texture and loads of herbal and spice accents to the black and blue fruit flavors, it has a long, earthy finish.
JD 90
Jeb Dunnuck
Moving to the reserves, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Reserve offers more depth and richness, with lots of plum, currants, candied violets and exotic flower aroma and flavors. There's a subtle forest floor note as well, and this medium to full-bodied effort has ripe tannin, beautiful purity and fine, fine tannin.

Amici Winery Video
In the 1990's, a group of friends with a passion for good wine and fun times together crushed a few tons of grapes in the Napa Valley for their personal cellars. The resulting wine was so well-received that they started producing wine the very next year to share with the public. They chose to name the wine, appropriately, Amici ("friends" in Italian).

Amici's owners — John Harris, Bob and Celia Shepard, and Bart Woytowicz—are all great friends with a passion for making and enjoying great wine. At Amici the focus is on quality, not quantity. Because they insist on keeping the production small, they can carefully control the process of creating each wine, crafting what they like to consider a small work of art in each bottle.

What started as a few friends crushing some grapes for fun is now an award-winning premium wine known around the country, but one thing will never change: Amici is a wine created by friends, for friends.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wines. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
