Winemaker Notes

Aromas of blackberry, black currant and powdered cocoa give way to notes of lavender, soy and herbs de Provence. Texturally, the wine is expansive and concentrated, showing flavors of dark baker’s chocolate, dark cherry and caramelized vanilla. Tannins are round, lush and fine-grained, and excellent acid drives the wine through its fresh, long finish.

Complex aromas of crushed berries, chocolate, herbs and spices. Full body, creamy and round tannins and a lovely, flavorful finish. Soft and lightly austere. Enjoy the tannins through the center palate. 98% cabernet sauvignon, with petit verdot and cabernet franc. Better after 2021.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a cellar selection and in 2017 comes mostly from the Missouri Hopper vineyard. It’s one of the more plush, sexy wines in the lineup and packs full-bodied richness and depth as well as classic notes of crème de cassis, smoke tobacco, Asian spices, and chocolate. It’s already drinking nicely and should evolve for 10-15+ years.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve comes from the Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper vineyard, the Kennifick Ranch vineyard and the Stags Leap vineyard and contains splashes of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It aged for 22 months in 100% new French Sylvain, Taransaud and Darnajou barrels. Very deep garnet-purple colored, it charges out of the gate with energetic boysenberries, kirsch, black cherries and warm cassis scents with hints of potpourri, baking spices and dried lavender. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has loads of open-knit, exuberant black fruit flavors on offer, with a soft texture and lovely freshness, finishing on a spicy note.

Amici, California
Amici Winery Video
In the 1990's, a group of friends with a passion for good wine and fun times together crushed a few tons of grapes in the Napa Valley for their personal cellars. The resulting wine was so well-received that they started producing wine the very next year to share with the public. They chose to name the wine, appropriately, Amici ("friends" in Italian).

Amici's owners — John Harris, Bob and Celia Shepard, and Bart Woytowicz—are all great friends with a passion for making and enjoying great wine. At Amici the focus is on quality, not quantity. Because they insist on keeping the production small, they can carefully control the process of creating each wine, crafting what they like to consider a small work of art in each bottle.

What started as a few friends crushing some grapes for fun is now an award-winning premium wine known around the country, but one thing will never change: Amici is a wine created by friends, for friends.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
