Winemaker Notes

A rich Pinot with coastal influences that has world-class elegance and quality. The influence of the sea and soil combined with slow ripening make for a deep ruby-red wine with a touch of violet and great aromatic complexity. The nose evokes ripe fruits with elegant notes of vanilla and spice from the well-integrated oak.

Ideal with lamb or game birds.

Wine & Spirits
A fruit-driven pinot noir, this has tangy scents of blood orange, and supple impressions of red cherry flesh. It’s broad and rich, with a touch of bitterness; to match pastel de choclo or the dark meat of roast chicken.
JS 91
James Suckling
This has plenty of tannins, but the substance and forest berries are sufficient to carry them. Nice length, but you need to like your pinot well structured to go for this. Drink or hold.
WS 90
Wine Spectator
Crushed red fruit flavors are accented by graphite notes in this firm, fleshy version. Chocolate nib and floral details show on the finish. Drink now through 2022.

The Garces Silva family is one of the pioneers in the Leyda Valley's viticultural development and planted the land with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The vines are now reaching optimal maturity of 10 years old, and have begun to produce some very dynamic and unique expressions of Chardonnay. Located in a valley that lies between the Coastal Mountain Range and the Pacific Ocean, Amayna's gental coastal hills are characterized by organically poor soils and a maritime climate. Sitting 8.5 miles from the Pacific Ocean, the vineyards receive cool ocean breezes and maritime humidity to create a perfect balance. They harvest by hand and employ gravitational flow in lieu of pumps to create elegant wines.

An officially recognized sub-zone in the southern part of the San Antonio Valley, the Leyda Valley was the original settlement of the wine pioneers who came to the area in the 1990s. They were in search of cooler and wetter growing conditions—as compared to more eastern, drier and often warmer locations.

Planting, which began only in the late 1990s, focused on Sauvignon blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot noir and some limited spots for Syrah. The area continues to receive well-earned accolades for wines of these varieties.

Thin-skinned, finicky and temperamental, Pinot Noir is also one of the most rewarding grapes to grow and remains a labor of love for some of the greatest vignerons in Burgundy. Fairly adaptable but highly reflective of the environment in which it is grown, Pinot Noir prefers a cool climate and requires low yields to achieve high quality. Outside of France, outstanding examples come from in Oregon, California and throughout specific locations in wine-producing world. Somm Secret—André Tchelistcheff, California’s most influential post-Prohibition winemaker decidedly stayed away from the grape, claiming “God made Cabernet. The Devil made Pinot Noir.”
