Altocedro La Consulta Select Malbec 2009 Front Label
Altocedro La Consulta Select Malbec 2009 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

We strive for a La Consulta-terroir driven Malbec that is fruitforward yet with some added complexity from the oak.

Altocedro means "tall cedar," and represents both winemaker and owner Karim Mussi Saffie's Lebanese-Argentine heritage, and a cedar tree which towers over the winery.

Flashy toast gives this a mocha and anise jump start, backed by a core of crushed plum, blackberry and fig paste. A cocoa edge hangs on through the finish, with latent drive stretching it all out. Drink now through 2012. 900 cases imported.

Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
