Winemaker Notes

The 2014 Alchemist Pinot Noir has aromas of ripe strawberries, raspberry, and bacon. This wine in your mouth has intensity and verve, with big flavors of raspberry, dark cherry, and baking spices. The concentrated fruit flavors are held in check by fine tannins that give this wine dimension and length.

Wine Spectator
Firm and focused, dancing deftly and showing off rose petal-accented cherry flavors that glide into a long finish against fine, structured tannins. Best from 2018 through 2024.
WW 90
Wilfred Wong of Wine.com
Made in the New World, the terroir-driven 2014 Alchemist Pinot Noir delves nicely into Old World flavors of earth, mineral, and red fruits. The wine's bright finish pairs well with lightly grilled salmon. (Tasted: February 10, 2017, San Francisco, CA)

There’s a mixture of art and science that goes into making Alchemist wines. Alchemist is an inspiring blend of the very best from our favorite Willamette Valley vineyards and is the small-batch, pinnacle of the Union Wine Company portfolio.

Home of some of the planet’s most amazingly elegant and expressive Pinot noir, the Willamette Valley is a pastoral, mixed landscape of green, bucolic rolling hills, dramatic forestlands and small, independent, friendly wine growers. As a leader in environmental stewardship, the valley has some of the nation’s most protective land use policies, with two-thirds of its vineyards farmed sustainably and over half, organically. While the valley claims a cool, continental climate, and is heavily influenced by the cold, moist winds of the Pacific Ocean, its warm and dry summers allow for the steady, even ripening of Pinot noir.

The potential of Willamette Valley Pinot noir continues to attract the investment of serious growers and winemakers both locally and from abroad, as naturally the finished wines bring accolades from professionals and enthusiasts. With a range of styles from delicate dried cherry, raspberry and hibiscus to stronger notes of truffle, mocha, plum and spice, a fine Willamette Valley Pinot noir is a perfect expression of both character and grace.
