Winemaker Notes

The “Second Vin “of Tenuta di Trinoro, Le Cupole was first produced in 1995. It is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, with percentages varying with each vintage. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in one to three year old barriques and cement, Le Cupole is velvety and approachable. This wine hits the palate with exuberance, full of fleshy, bright fruit, extracted tannins, and rich color.

A spicy and peppery wine with aromas of eucalyptus, red cherries and leather. Silky, almost creamy tannins with crisp acidity and a medium body. Good licorice finish. Drink or hold.

The Tenuta di Trinoro 2023 Le Cupole hits its marks squarely, delivering luxurious quality at a highly accessible price point. The blend of 41% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Franc, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot shows dark fruit flavors of blackberry framed by velvety richness that spreads broadly across the palate. Crafted from the same high-elevation Val d’Orcia vineyards as the estate’s flagship wines, Le Cupole benefits from the same rigorous selection and low-yield philosophy. The 2023 tannins are especially well managed, giving the wine a more approachable personality. Rating: 94+

Vibrant and complex, this red starts out with cherry, blackberry, rose and mineral flavors supported by bracing acidity and a dense layer of tannins. Overall, this is refined and intense, with terrific harmony and length. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
