Winemaker Notes

This wine presents a beautiful balance of power and elegance. Layered aromas of violets, ripe plums, and a hint of eucalyptus stand out on the nose. Rich flavors of candied black cherry, complemented by balsamic and licorice notes, unite on the palate upon first sip. Subtle tannins create an elegant mouthfeel, enhanced by lingering notes of black pepper, pastry spices, and sweet mint.

True to its signature, the 2022 pours deep, dense ruby. It is just as intense in aroma, dispersing coffee, potting soil, mushroom and black currants. Vigorous and full yet ultimately balanced, the palate boasts a juicy core of toothsome blackberries, and its firm, stony tannins are well polished. Stylised and easy to understand without sacrificing complexity or a certain sense of place, it even evokes a wild dustiness.

Dusty and cedary nose of dark berries, toasted spices and hints of dried herbs. Dry and a little tight on the palate, with raw, chewy tannins. Medium-bodied. I like the fruit concentration and succulent mid-palate, yet it needs a bit more time to integrate the tannins. Try after 2027.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
