Winemaker Notes

This Cabernet Sauvignon presents with deep, dark reds and purples. Aromas are opulent with mocha and ripe black plum, cassis and a subtle thread of anise. Arich, dense profile follows with flavors of dark, ripe blackberry, plum and dark chocolate with a hint of black licorice. This is a serious Cabernet Sauvignon with integrity built to reward with time in the cellar.

Blend: 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot

Relaxed in texture and impressively rich in fruit flavors, this wine opens with a mélange of mint, crushed cherries and raspberries. It then floods the palate with blackberries and blueberries interlaced with cedar, mint and cocoa accents. The wine has improved greatly over past vintages. It is rich enough to enjoy soon but concentrated enough for considerable aging. Best from 2027–2037.

Shows black cherry and blackberry compote flavors lined with a black licorice note, all backed by the polished, focused finish. Frankly fruit driven, this ripe, direct style offers good energy for balance. Drink now through 2034. 1,372 cases made.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Dollarhide Estate Vineyard is outstanding, with a blue-fruited, plum, graphite, and bouquet garni-like array on the nose as well as a medium to full-bodied style on the palate. It has good freshness, a clean, elegant mouthfeel, and a great finish.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
