Ripe fruit flavours of crisp Pink Lady apple and lemon rind add a zesty bite to the finish. A subtle balance of density, supple fruit, and toasted oak works in tandem with a poignant backbone of acidity, suggesting the potential for harmonious evolution over the next few years.

Stone fruits, orange blossom, spicy wood, and savory, toasty nuances all define the bouquet of the 2023 Chardonnay Ashley's, which spent seven months in 37% new French oak. It's medium-bodied on the palate, with a broad, textured mouthfeel and nicely integrated acidity.

A grand, traditional California version of reserve-style chardonnay. This boasts plenty of butter, toast and poached fruit flavors on a full body and a nicely viscous texture that leads to a lingering finish. Drink now or hold.

The 2023 Chardonnay Ashley's has a rich, leesy character that's nicely tempered by the cool vintage. It was fermented entirely in barrel, with 37% new French oak. Rich and rounded, it's a wine more of texture than aromatic expressiveness. Oak spice, mint and chamomile linger on the long, salty finale.

There's an appealing firmness to the juicy notes of pear, melon and citrus, with a touch of toasted, salted almond and apple skin. There's plenty of freshness to admire, along with a touch of spices and floral grace notes.

One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.

A superior source of California Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Sta. Rita Hills is the coolest, westernmost sub-region of the larger Santa Ynez Valley appellation within Santa Barbara County. This relatively new AVA is unquestionably one to keep an eye on.

The climate of Sta. Rita Hills is a natural match for Chardonnay and Pinot noir, thanks to the crisp ocean breezes and well-drained, limestone-rich calcareous soil. Here, grapes ripen just enough, while retaining brisk acidity and harmonious balance.
