The expressive and open 2020 Lanzaga comes from a rainy and stormy vintage (from the eighth of May until the end of August) and an early harvest, as they started the 21st of September. It's a riper year than 2019, and the wine has 14.5% alcohol. It's juicy and has some tannins that are going to require some more time in bottle and/or powerful food.

A refined and meticulously crafted Rioja, the 2020 Lanzaga is a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Garnacha sourced from Lanciego in Rioja Alavesa. Aged for 14 months in French foudres, it presents a deep purple hue. The aromas intertwine violet and cherry notes with hints of licorice, bay leaf and raspberry, underscored by a backdrop of wild herbs. On the palate, it is dry, juicy and moderately chalky, leaving behind a lingering impression of vibrant fruitiness. This Rioja red possesses crystalline clarity.

A forward and expressive Lanzaga with lots of fruit. Cherries, berries, spices and hints of dried herbs. Medium to full body with nicely firm tannins that give it a tight structure. Really well-balanced and fresh. From organically grown grapes.

Fragrant with tea rose, iron and wild thyme notes, this vibrant red shows fine integration and fluid length. There's a limber feel to the tannins as they support flavors of black raspberry puree, plus sweet hints of red licorice, white pepper and paprika that play on the plushly textured finish. Drink now through 2035.

Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.

Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
