Red White Sparkling Rosé Spirits GiftsLearn about Loureiro — taste profile, popular regions and more …
Native to the Iberian Peninsula, Loureiro dates back to the late 18th century, growing mostly within the Minho region, though has flourished currently into neighboring Galicia. The grape is essential to the production of Portugeuse Vinho Verde and white blends of the Spanish region Rias Baixas. Often wines produced from Loureiro are given a carbonic fizz to prevent oxidation.
Tasting Notes for Loureiro
Loureiro is a dry white wine, light in body and vibrant in acidity, showing aromas of white flowers and bay leaves, and delicate notes of citrus and minerals.
Perfect Food Pairings for Loureiro
Due to its fresh light style, Loureiro resonates with a variety of seafood dishes like Bacalhau, grilled sardines or seabass, sushi and tuna-stuffed peppers, as well as Spanish omelets, tangy sheep cheese and vegetable soups.
Sommelier Secrets for Loureiro
The word Loureiro means “laurel” in Portugeuse, conveying the wine’s bay leaf aromatics.
