Colombard is a large-berried white grape originating in Southwest France. A cross between Chenin Blanc and Gouais Blanc, it is grown in Cognac and Armagnac for distillation into Brandy. Southwest France, California and South Africa produce light, dry, inexpensive bottles noted for their refreshing quality.
Tasting Notes for Colombard
As a dry white wine, Colombard shows high acidity and pleasant green apple, citrus, white peach, almond and lemongrass characteristics. Having a high pulp-to-skin ratio, Colombard can produce a fairly neutral wine which makes it suitable for Cognac and Armagnac production.
