Red White Sparkling Rosé Spirits GiftsLearn about Trousseau — taste profile, popular regions and more …
An intensely hued red wine grape indigenous to the Jura, Trousseau can make powerful wines with aging potential. Parentage analysis shows that it is related to Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Savagnin. Though no one is certain how or why, Trousseau made a long journey west across France and the Iberian Peninsula well over 200 years ago to take a second home under the alias, Bastardo, in Portugal. It is also permitted in the production of Port.
Tasting Notes for Trousseau
Trousseau is a dry red wine with a light to midweight body and notes of raspberry and fresh red fruit, tea leaves, pepper and mineral.
Perfect Food Pairings for Trousseau
Couple Trousseau with Comté or any strong aged cheese, morels and chicken, seared pork chops, wild boar stew or lamb-stuffed eggplant.
Sommelier Secrets for Trousseau
Maturana Tinta, Merenzao and Verdejo Negro are among the other names for this grape.
