Winemaker Notes

This hand harvested, single vineyard wine from Gualtallary is composed of 100% hand harvested Cabernet Franc,. This unique wine is completely fermented and aged in a large concrete egg and sees no oak. This subtle and nuanced wine shows soft plush tannins with raspberries, ripe black currant and an underlying chalk driven finish. Fresh wet soil, hazel nuts, figs, and savory spice dominate this earth driven wine. The Eggo wines showcase the perfect combination of a chalky, terroir driven wine, with vibrant fruit and a long smooth finish.

The peppery 2020 Eggo Franco comes from Tupungato Winelands. The grapes fermented destemmed, and the wine matured in concrete egg to keep the purity. It has pungent aromas of freshly cracked peppercorns, herbs and spices and is herbal but also floral. It has strong varietal character, with reminiscences of some wines from the Loire. Rating: 93+

With a winning combination of cool weather, high elevation and well-draining alluvial soils, it is no surprise that Mendoza’s Uco Valley is one of the most exciting up-and-coming wine regions in Argentina. Healthy, easy-to-manage vines produce low yields of high-quality fruit, which in turn create flavorful, full-bodied wines with generous acidity.

This is the source of some of the best Malbec in Mendoza, which can range from value-priced to ultra-premium. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay also perform well here.
