Winemaker Notes

Pomegranate, berry fruits, and plum mix with hints of fresh cut flowers and savory herbs in yet another great showing from our Vista Verde Vineyard. Underneath the fruit elements are some deeper tones along with the prototypical flinty, mineral-driven aromas. Broad and expansive on the palate, the wine showcases minerals across the tongue along with berry fruits and a strong impression of Oolong tea on the finish. The components for Vista Verde are now sourced exclusively from steep limestone hillsides which creates a wine with structure and verve.

This wine begins with zesty aromas of black raspberry, poached cherry and hibiscus accented by mace and clove. Flavors of roasted cranberry and black raspberry converge with star anise and black licorice on the delicious palate.

Thin-skinned, finicky and temperamental, Pinot Noir is also one of the most rewarding grapes to grow and remains a labor of love for some of the greatest vignerons in Burgundy. Fairly adaptable but highly reflective of the environment in which it is grown, Pinot Noir prefers a cool climate and requires low yields to achieve high quality. Outside of France, outstanding examples come from in Oregon, California and throughout specific locations in wine-producing world. Somm Secret—André Tchelistcheff, California’s most influential post-Prohibition winemaker decidedly stayed away from the grape, claiming “God made Cabernet. The Devil made Pinot Noir.”
