Winemaker Notes

Black cherry, plum, rose petal, mocha, and exotic spice combine to give this wine a very pretty nose. This is an extremely well-balanced wine with a very long finish. Fresh acidity brings your mouth to life, helping to express raspberry and black cherry fruit flavors while enhancing the wine's rich tannins. Crème brulee, spice and dark chocolate linger on the back of the palate. The fruit, acid and tannin balance of this wine will ensure it has a long life. Entry is sweet and broad with black cherry and cherry skin flavors and focused acidity. Mocha and allspice round out the finish on this very elegant Pinot Noir.

Thin-skinned, finicky and temperamental, Pinot Noir is also one of the most rewarding grapes to grow and remains a labor of love for some of the greatest vignerons in Burgundy. Fairly adaptable but highly reflective of the environment in which it is grown, Pinot Noir prefers a cool climate and requires low yields to achieve high quality. Outside of France, outstanding examples come from in Oregon, California and throughout specific locations in wine-producing world. Somm Secret—André Tchelistcheff, California’s most influential post-Prohibition winemaker decidedly stayed away from the grape, claiming “God made Cabernet. The Devil made Pinot Noir.”
