For anyone who is seeking pronounced minerality and racy elegance in dry riesling, here is a great example that doesn’t cost the world. Stunningly precise nose of stone fruits with a touch of grapefruit, pomelo and wild herbs. Then with more aeration in glass delicate exotic fruit aromas. Although this is sleek there’s a wonderful textural complexity here, the fine tannins exactly interlocking with the stony minerality. From organically grown grapes.

The 2022 Siefersheim Riesling Porphyr comes from the best Riesling parcels in Siefersheim that are cultivated on extremely stony, skeleton-rich sand, gravel and clay soils with porphyry rock in the subsoil. Vinified in stainless steel tank and traditional German oak casks, this intensely yellow-colored wine opens with a dense, elegant and still a little bit untamed reductive nose of lemon juice intertwined with vegetal notes of lemon balm as well as sur lies and flinty aromas. Round, refined and juicy on the palate, this medium-weight Riesling reveals fine and nervy acidity and persistent mineral tension as well as a clearly defined, dry and discreetly bitter finish with fine tannins and persistent salinity. This is an excellent Riesling, and at this price, it's another bargain from this organic producer. 12.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap closure.

A smoky mineral note leads to flavors of juicy pear and baked pineapple that are framed by concentrated notes of wet stone and turmeric spice. This is broad textured, with a long, mouth-watering finish of chamomile and lemon zest.

Chalky-textured and distinctive, with salty mineral notes and baking spice details framing a core of passion fruit and guava. Succulent acidity keeps the finish on the rails, with salinity and slate notes in the backdrop. Well-balanced. Drink now through 2030. 100 cases imported.
Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.
