What a breathtaking nose for a village wine! The most beautiful, fresh-pineapple aroma and a ton of wild herbs, too. Sensational concentration for the category and a fireworks display of minerals at the spectacular finish, but all that married to a wonderful lightness of touch that makes this more immediately appealing than a more powerful GG could ever be. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

The 2019 Siefersheim Riesling Porphyr is clear, pure, intense and complex on the elegant, terroir-driven nose that shows refined notes of crushed stones. Round and intense on the crystalline and elegant palate, this is a medium to full-bodied, tightly structured but juicy enough Riesling for a long run. However, the 2019 already tastes intense and sustainable and finishes with salty notes as well as a first maturity that makes Riesling so fabulously complex. 12.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.
