Winemaker Notes

This is a wine of elegance and finesse that fulfills Volker Eisele's intentions; to reflect the style of wine that typifies Bordeaux varietals without any one dominating. The wine is a deep red in the glass, with lightly purple undertones. The nose is expressive with dark chocolate, cedar, black cherry, and the spiciness of a black mission fig. In the mouth, the wine shows lovely texture, with supportive, mouth-filling tannins that mingle well with flavors of darkly roasted coffee, blueberries, black cherry, and subtle clove. The wine is dense and supple, with a lingering, sweetly smoky finish. Drinkable now but will age gracefully due to its heritage.

The 2012 Proprietary Red Blend Terzetto is an equal part blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Like its siblings, it was aged 22 months in French oak. Attractive black raspberry and blackcurrant fruit emerge from this stylish, concentrated, richly fruity 2012. Already appealing, it can be enjoyed over the next 10-12 years.

Made from a third each of co-fermented Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, all from the family estate, this is a dense, lovely wine, rich in red fruit, chocolate, clove and cedar, with a generosity of tannin that suggests aging. Drink now through 2020. Cellar Selection.

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.
