Winemaker Notes

Max’s Garden exhibits a rich, earthy texture with lifted spice and a well-delineated fruit profile. This is a wine with a soft elegant framework that complements the Garden Series for its distinctiveness.

Deep dark red color with a black core. The 2015 Max's Garden Shiraz exhibits aromas of plum and black cherry with hints of tar, fresh earth, and baking spices. Notes of lavender are folded into the background.

Medium to full-bodied, notes of red to blue fruits weave across the front palate with a hint of fresh jam reduction. Notes of iron-rich, scorched earth with hints of bitter chocolate. Tannins are bold and savory in nature and are accented with five spice and hints of incense across a long rolling finish.

The orange Cambrian soils on which the vineyard is based, thought to be some of the oldest soils in the world, are the inspiration for this label’s color.

Marked by an unmistakable deep purple hue and savory aromatics, Syrah makes an intense, powerful and often age-worthy red. Native to the Northern Rhône, Syrah achieves its maximum potential in the steep village of Hermitage and plays an important component in the Red Rhône Blends of the south, adding color and structure to Grenache and Mourvèdre. Syrah is the most widely planted grape of Australia and is important in California and Washington. Sommelier Secret—Such a synergy these three create together, the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre trio often takes on the shorthand term, “GSM.”

Historically some of Australia’s most lucrative gold country, today Heathcote maintains its esteemed reputation as a source of country’s best red wines. The rolling countryside of ancient reddish brown soils bordered by mountain ranges that funnel cool air into the region during the growing season create some of Australia’s most deeply-hued and impressively layered Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
