Winemaker Notes

Redigaffi has an intense color that arouses enthusiasm and satisfy the sight, it highlights great complexity characterized by the fruity attack in the mouth leaving then “room” to tobacco and liquorice notes. Good concentration given by the pre-harvesting activity, three passages and perfect maturation reached by our grapes. Outstanding complexity. Floral notes typical of our “Macchia Mediterranea” are intense and persistent. The elegance of tannins is enhanced by the great structure and balance. Considerable extraction and good acidity.

Intense aromas of raspberry sauce with vanilla cream. Full-bodied, soft and round, with lots of fruit and a caressing, seductive texture on the finish. Big and juicy. Blockbuster. Merlot. Best after 2007. 565 cases made, 150 cases imported.

2003 was a notoriously hot vintage - the opposite of 2002 - but at Tua Rita they made a 'very careful selection of the grapes and a drastic reduction in yield to maintain concentration and acidity'. I think they have done a great job: the 2003 has very lovely texture and weight. It is full-bodied but wears its concentration well and the fullness is underpinned by vivid acidity and freshness. I love the notes of lightness and vibrancy amongst the heavier, richer, dense fruit, and the tannins are integrated even if a little more chunky in style. Drinking beautifully now but can keep.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
