Winemaker Notes

Redigaffi has an intense color that arouses enthusiasm and satisfy the sight, it highlights great complexity characterized by the fruity attack in the mouth leaving then “room” to tobacco and liquorice notes. Good concentration given by the pre-harvesting activity, three passages and perfect maturation reached by our grapes. Outstanding complexity. Floral notes typical of our “Macchia Mediterranea” are intense and persistent. The elegance of tannins is enhanced by the great structure and balance. Considerable extraction and good acidity.

The 2002 vintage had a very cold, rainy, spring, and harvest was interrupted by rain showers. At Tua Rita they had to perform strict bunch selection to obtain a decent structure. The wine has a restrained nose with lots of sweet oak-spice and dark fruits of the forest and forest floor notes. It still feels closed on the palate, with moderate intensity and concentration, especially compared to the 2001, showing cedar, spice, bramble and semi-ripe blackberry flavours. It's a robust, firmly structured wine in a more traditional style.

With abundant rain and below average temperatures, this is wildly recognized as a very challenging vintage in Tuscany. Tasted today with so many years of bottle age under its belt, the Tua Rita 2002 Redigaffi is a delightful surprise. Like the 2014 vintage—another underdog that was met with low expectations—this wine from 2002 has a lot going for it. The mouthfeel is compact and lean (similar to the 1996), but it is balanced and fresh. Cool vintage tones of cassis, dried raspberry and candied lilac emerge from this medium-bodied Merlot.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
