Winemaker Notes

Deep purple in color, Redigaffi offers luscious layers of blueberry jam, ripe plum and blackberry, followed by voluptuous notes of dark chocolate, licorice, black pepper, vanilla and incense. Full-bodied and lush on the palate with polished tannins and an extra-long finish, Redigaffi is one of Italy’s greatest Merlots. A true masterpiece.

This wine pairs beautifully with dark-fruit chutney sauces, kalamata olive tapenade, Chateaubriand, and grilled pepper-crusted sirloins.

This wine would make Italian wine history when Robert Parker awarded it a perfect 100-point score. The Tua Rita 2000 Redigaffi would guarantee a place for coastal Tuscany on a world map of fine wine. Despite the wine's many deserved accolades, I must admit that the two surrounding vintages, the 1999 and the 2001, also come out roaring in this retrospective, and it's hard to pick a favorite among the three. This expression from 2000 has an especially bright and lifted bouquet with a hint of dried mint, forest floor or poblano pepper softly present throughout. Parker teaches us that mint is often an aromatic quality associated with fine Merlot, and that point is made beautifully by this bottle

The 2000 Redigaffi achieved notoriety when it was first released and Robert Parker gave it a perfect score of 100 points. It is still impressively young looking, with quite green, leafy notes as well as blackberry. On the palate there are green pepper and blackberry flavours with some semi-ripe berry notes. The tannins are a little crunchy but there is a balanced acidity and a nice, firm, upright structure. For Tua Rita, 'the 2000 vintage here was a very balanced one', with a rainy spring and a 'sun-drenched summer'.

Big and flamboyant Merlot. Intense aromas of crushed violets, with meat and smoke, as well as ripe, almost jammy fruit. Full-bodied, with big, chewy tannins and a long, smoky, berry aftertaste. Almost raisiny on the finish, but I like it. Best after 2005.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
