Winemaker Notes

La Storia Cabernet is a wine worthy of aging, showing abundant varietal aromas and flavors of blueberry, blackberry and black licorice, with a hint of herbs and ripe olives. The predominately French oak aging contributes aromas of cinnamon, vanilla, cocoa dust and slight smokiness. The mouthfeel is fresh and juicy with balanced acidity and very soft tannins for a young wine. Due to the relatively lower sugar at harvest the alcohol content is modest and the acidity is relatively high and that will extend the longevity of this wine.

The 2013 La Storia Cabernet Sauvignon Estate offers blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, a subtle touch of oak, medium to full body, low acidity and ripe tannin. This is an attractive, fleshy, full-bodied wine to drink over the next 10-15 years, if not longer.

While Sonoma County is acclaimed—and rightfully so—for its Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, and Zinfandels, it also produces exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Of the region’s 18 American Viticultural Areas, only a handful produce top-notch Cabernet Sauvignon. These appellations include Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek Valley. Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignons made in these appellations can offer a complex array of aromas and flavors. Fruit notes such as blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis, black cherry and raspberry often are accompanied by hints of graphite, dusty earth, cigar box, toast and vanilla. The varietal has a rich history in Sonoma, and some of these Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet-based blends rival the best from Napa Valley.
