The 2010 Descendant is another impressive release of this wine, the color making that immediately apparent; completely black/purple with healthy, vibrant magenta hues. 2010 was an exceptional vintage and the Descendant displays wonderful high tone aromatics and purity that is synonymous with the harvest. A pure, wild, powerful nose of blackberry and tar is complimented by a gentle floral lift of lavender and violets. Full-bodied with great concentration, silky tannins and perfectly judged extract, this vigorous and suave young wine has a long, long future ahead of it.

    This is a big and chewy wine with pretty tannin tone to it as well as generous fruit. More traditional style but the fruity and austere style keeps it in form. Better after 2016 when the fruit and tannins melt together. Shiraz fermented on Viognier skins.

    Smooth and ripe, with generous licorice and cherry accents and exotic spice notes on the finish. Powdery tannins sprinkle over the finish, allowing the flavors to persist gently. Shiraz. Drink now through 2020.

Historically and presently the most important wine-producing region of Australia, the Barossa Valley is set in the Barossa zone of South Australia, where more than half of the country’s wine is made. Because the climate is very hot and dry, vineyard managers work diligently to ensure grapes reach the perfect levels of phenolic ripeness.

The intense heat is ideal for plush, bold reds, particularly Shiraz on its own or Rhône Blends. Often Shiraz and Cabernet partner up for plump and powerful reds.

While much less prevalent, light-skinned varieties such as Riesling, Viognier or Semillon produce vibrant Barossa Valley whites.

Most of Australia’s largest wine producers are based here and Shiraz plantings date back as far as the 1850s or before. Many of them are dry farmed and bush trained, still offering less than one ton per acre of inky, intense, purple juice.
