Winemaker Notes

This wine displays subtle notes of rose petal, skins of lime and lemon and finishes with zesty acidity.

Well-known winemaker Ben Riggs deserves credit for this wine, which balances sugar and acid so deftly that it's hard to tell if this is off-dry or just genuinely fruit-ripe. It's a fuller style than many Australian Rieslings, but pulls it off, packing in lemon-lime and honey notes. The finish is long and textured, just to the point of balanced bitterness. Ready to drink.

Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.

Known for opulent red wines with intense power and concentration, McLaren Vale is home to perhaps the most “classic” style of Australian Shiraz. Vinified on its own or in Rhône Blends, these hot-climate wines are deeply colored and high in extract with signature hints of dark chocolate and licorice. Cabernet Sauvignon is also produced in a similar style.

Whites, often made from Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc tend to be opulent and full of tropical, stone and citrus fruit.
