Lots of currants, blueberries, vanilla and floral character on the nose and palate. Full body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Edgy contrast of acidity, ripe fruit and wood. Stylish, savory and delicious. A blend of sangiovese and merlot. One of the best values amongst Super Tuscan reds. Drink in 2016.

Taking Sangiovese into a new place in time. For decades, this beautiful Tuscan red grape has provided great, everyday drinking for food and wine lovers everywhere, but recently New World zealots has elevated the grape to another level and shown the international community that Sangiovese can also rise beyond the fiasco (straw bottles) that were omnipresent Chianti standard bearers. The 2013 Tenuta Sette Ponti Crognolo is a remarkable expression of the varietal and surpasses many wines at twice its asking price. Just think of serving this wine with a slow-roasted leg of lamb, infused with fresh rosemary springs. Deep ruby in color, with beautiful and alluring magenta highlights; a powerful expression of ripe fruits in the nose, plums and berries, excellent depth; medium bodied and lively on the palate; bright red and black fruits in the flavors, a touch of oak adds another element; medium finish, perky aftertaste. Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.
A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
