Winemaker Notes

Quite light in color, the bouquet of Magnacosta opens with red fruit notes, ripe and fragrant, followed by floral hints of mustards in bloom and Mediterranean undergrowth in the early summer. The taste is dynamic, immediately fresh and fragrant, with a long progression of sensations and gentle, silky tannins. This Cabernet Franc is well equipped to face the test of time.

One of three single-vineyard expressions of Cabernet Franc made by Tenuta di Trinoro, the 2022 Campo di Magnacosta is the most mineral driven of the bunch. Grapes come from super high-density, double guyot planting (with 10,000 vines per hectare) on gravel soils. This 1.5-hectare parcel rests at the lowest part of the estate at 400 to 450 meters above sea level with a little stream that runs through the middle. This wine delivers a medium-plus mouthfeel, with tight and vertical aromas of blackberry, crushed granite and a hint of white pepper. The wine ages first in barrique and then in cement. The alcohol pushes high at 15% in this tiny 1,939-bottle release.

The 2022 Campo di Magnacosta is the most aromatic of the three pure Francs this year. Crushed flowers, dried herbs, mint, pipe tobacco, cedar and dried cherry fruit are all nicely lifted in this mid-weight, perfumed offering from Tenuta di Trinoro. This is such a seductive wine.

Expressive and supple in texture, this red boasts cherry, black currant, earth, mineral and tobacco flavors. Backed by a racy structure, with refined tannins and a long, salty aftertaste. Terrific balance. Cabernet Franc.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
