Winemaker Notes

Il Ghizzano is a wine that introduces the estate to wine bars, stores, and restaurants worldwide, crafted primarily from Sangiovese grapes with a small percentage of Merlot from the “Santa Maria” and “Il Monte” vineyards, and designed to offer a fresh, fruity, and easy-to-drink expression that showcases the natural sweetness of local Sangiovese.

A spicy and earthy red with plum and berry aromas that follow through to a medium body with round, soft tannins and a juicy finish. Lots of character and subtlety to this sangiovese. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Lovely now, but will age nicely too. Drink or hold.

From the younger Sangiovese vines of the estate, fermented on the skins for five to 10 days then racked into cement tanks for 10-12 months before bottling. Red and blue fruit aromas lead to a bright and rich palate. Intense red fruits with subtle grainy texture and tangy red fruits are accompanied by touches of liquorice and herbs, giving the finish balsamic freshness. Charming. 35-40,000 bottles produced.

Tar and leather are first on the nose and then a bit of soil, followed by mixed berries, chocolate and coffee. Cherries, cranberries and raspberries stand out on the palate before a bitter chocolate finish pointed up by chalky tannins.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
