Winemaker Notes

Showcasing a deep, brilliant black cherry color, the 2009 Arcanum is truly a superb wine. On the nose, elegant aromas of spice and vanilla lead to an intensity that is remarkable for such a youngwine. On the palate, the wine reveals flavors of white pepper, nutmeg and orange peel that meld together seamlessly to create a balanced wine with refined tannins and a long, lingering finish. Ledby Cabernet Franc, this wine demonstrates what Cabernet-Franc-based blends can achieve in the Tuscan hills.

Blend: 68% Cabernet Franc, 22% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon

Dense and powerful, this red layers ripe black currant, cherry, chocolate, prune and spice flavors over firm, assertive tannins. This is starting to hit its stride, but needs food to match the tannins. Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
